Chris Shore & Craig Veltri are on commentary as ‘The Xperience’ opens with newly crowned Innovative TV Champion “Mr Elite” Drew Myers in the ring. Myers brags about his victory over former champion “Do or Die” Chip Day and his pedigree, being a D-1 wrestler at UNC Chapel Hill. Myers tells the crowd in Hickory, NC that they deserve nothing less than a champion like him. Mr. Elite invites the crowd to live vicariously through him because in his words, he’s “The best thing you’ve ever seen”.
ITV Championship Match
“Mr Elite” Drew Myers(c) vs Steven “The Fever” Walters
ITV Title Rules:
*All matches are 10 Minute Time Limit
*The title CAN change hands on countout or disqualification
*Should there be a time limit draw, the challenger is entitled to a rematch at their leisure.
Match Recap: Steven Walters, fresh off a tour of England interrupts ring announcer Corky Franks momentarily to hit the corner and gets a loud “welcome home” from the crowd. Myers, never to be outdone hits the opposite corner and is showered with a chorus of boos. Now that Walters has had his fun, we begin this ITV title contest. Immediately the two engage in an amateur style battle, reversing one another fast and furiously. Myers gets a shoulder tackle but takes a little too much time posing for the crowd and Walters gets a hip toss and locks in an arm bar. These two are very coherent of the ten minute time limit, both running at full speed from the onset of the match. Myers attempts a backslide, but Walters goes back to the hip toss and into the arm bar once again. Walters catches Mr. Elite coming out of the corner and goes for the “Fever Pitch” firemans carry into a backbreaker, but Elite escapes and drops “The Fever” across the top rope with a “stun gun”. The ITV champion applies a front face lock and takes Walters over with a text book vertical suplex. Walters briefly fights out but catches a back elbow from Mr. Elite who goes to a sleeper hold wearing the challenger down. Walters breaks the hold but runs directly into a big boot and Myers goes back to the mat going for a submission, Walters attempts a couple of rollups to no success and then impressively lifts Myers up and powerbombs him down. Senior Referee Mitch Blalock counts both men down, but both are up at 7 and exchanging right hands. Walters pulls out a suplex of his own with a T-Bone exploder, followed by an ensuguiri and Walters hits the “Fever Pitch” but doesn’t get all of it and is unable to put the ITV champ away. Walters goes back to the front face lock, but Myers reverses and hits the “Elite Slam”(Angle Slam) for a near fall but Walters isn’t out of this one just yet. Myers goes for his trifecta of belly to belly suplexes, hits two of them but Walters reverses the third attempt into a bridging northern lights for another near fall! Corky Franks announces two minutes remain and as he does Walters follows up with an asai moonsault but still can’t put the champ away. Myers begins pushing Walters away and may be playing the time limit here, but the champion rolls away from his challenger, goes behind with a waistlock and hits a picture perfect bridging german suplex for the three count retaining his ITV title with just about 90 seconds remaining.
Match Analysis: Another great opener and a hugely successful first title defense for Mr. Elite, as well as an impressive return to the States for Steven “The Fever” Walters in a losing effort. Myers continues to elevate himself to the top of the PWX roster with impressive wins over some of the best indy talents the world has to offer. *** 1/2
Matt Striker vs Adam Page
Match Recap: The Former WWE superstar Matt Striker returns to PWX, after giving PWX champion Caleb Konley all he can handle before being defeated. Striker takes on new ROH signee and PWX core roster member Adam Page. Striker & Page exchange a handshake and Striker takes the arm but Page finds the ropes quickly to break the hold. Page wants a test of strength, Striker is unsure if he wants to comply, but finally does. As the two test strenghts, Chris Shore details Striker’s endorsement of Adam Page and says “The kid is good, he’s just not sure if he(Page) knows just how good he is yet” Page has certainly come a long way in a short time and is making waves on the independent wrestling scene. Back to the action and Striker goes for a backslide, page wiggles out and Striker goes back to the backslide and floats over with it for a nearfall, the two are reversing each hold their opponent attempts and end up in a shoving match. Cooler heads prevail and the two reset, shake hands again and go back to feeling one another out. Striker grabs a wristlock, Page quickly reverses with a drop toe hold and brifely gains control with a side headlock, but this time Striker reverses and grabs a headlock of his own. striker with a series of arm drags, but Page avoids the fourth attempt, Striker reverses course and goes for a small package pin which gets a two count, and the two reset once again, treating this matchup like a game of chess. Page goes for the armdrags this time, hits two but Striker avoids the third and goes for a la majhistrah cradle for a near fall. Striker then slows the pace, going to the outside and even taking a picture for fan, again Page matches Striker’s strategy and takes a seat at ringside, again we are reset and the two lockup, Page makes he first strong move of the match hitting a vicious super kick but can’t cover Striker because he’s in the ropes. Striker is dazed and Page goes to a camel clutch but out of reflex, Striker rolls out of it and avoids being pinned by Page. Page attempts an irish whip but Striker collapses and Page goes to his corner as Sr. Referee Mitch Blalock checks on the former WWE superstar. Page checks in with the referee as to Striker’s well being, Page attempts to lock up with Striker but again Striker collapses and PWX managment is called to ringside to decide if this match should go on. Striker gets a sip of water to compose himself and explodes with a running boot for a nearfall. Striker then picks Page up and is verbally berating him but Page again hits a brutal superkick, this time laying Striker out for the three count and Adam Page picks up a big victory.
Match Analysis: Very interesting dynamic in this matchup as the two were evenly matched throughout, reversing each offensive attempt their opponent attempted. Striker finally tried to play possum to gain the advantage and nearly got the victory by doing so but Page showed he’s not a gullible rookie any longer and did what he had to do to get the victory with a brutal superkick. Striker was very impressive once again for PWX here and Page continues to be one of the shining stars coming out of the Carolinas and a talent to keep an eye on not just in the Carolinas but the entire independent wrestling scene. *** 1/4

Joey Ryan vs Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana
Match Recap: One of the founders of Pro Wrestling Guerilla, Joey Ryan returns to the PWX ring bringing sleaze as only he can. Ryan gives some of the female admirers at ringside an up close & personal look at “the goods” as he makes his way to the ring. Colt Cabana has more fun on his way to the ring than perhaps any other wrestler of recent memory, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen Cabana in PWX, and this should be an interesting contrast of styles between these two world class talents. Ryan is unimpressed by Cabana’s antics and goes to the outside to enjoy and oral fixation(Lollipop) as the crowd in Hickory rains streamers down on Cabana welcoming him back to the Carolinas. Ryan gets back in the ring and lubes up his trademark chest hair with his travel sized baby oil, the prematch antics continue as Cabana has to get his ring jacket folded properly before this match starts, but Cabana questions what Ryan has in his tights and Ryan ensures the referee it’s ALL HIM! Finally the bell rings and Cabana is still(and forever) in the mood to have a good time attempting to touch “The King of Sleaze” rather inappropriately. Colt goes for the lockup but slides right off the slippery chest of Joey Ryan, Joey takes advantage and hits a kick to the midsection and the two exchange arm bars merry go round style with Colt ultimately coming out on the better end of the exchange as Ryan retreats to his corner. Ryan backs Cabana into the corner and hits him with a closed fist, which Cabana returns then grabs the chest hair and throws Joey across the ring. Ryan looks for an exit and posts himself attempting to leave the ring, Cabana grabs a leg and the referee grabs the other to prevent an illegal low blow, of course Colt takes advantage and Ryan ends up having his legs split in two different directions. Cabana follows up with a unique diving pinning attempt but only scores a two count and Cabana goes into a modified abdominal stretch. Cabana goes for the “Billy Goat’s Curse” but Ryan finds the bottom rope and takes a breather to the outside, Cabana follows Ryan taps his shoulder and mocks Ryan’s complaining to the ref. Cabana throws his opponent back into the ring but Ryan kicks the middle rope into Colt’s groin as he enters the ring and the tide turns to The king of sleaze’s favor. Ryan utilizes a kravat choking Cabana on the middle rope, then gets a snap mare and chin lock followed by a drop kick for a near fall, as this match goes from pure comedy to pure intensity. Ryan rams Cabana into the turnbuckle but Cabana “Colts Up” whips Ryan into the ropes and goes for a drop kick but Ryan holds onto the ropes and Ryan keeps control of the match. Joey hits a body slam and poses for the crowd, before climbing to the middle rope, Ryan misses an elbow drop taking too much time and Cabana gets fired up hitting the “American Dream” spot complete with Bionic Elbow. Cabana hits the flying butt splash in the corner for a near fall. Ryan responds with a pumphandle exploder and a spine buster but still can’t put Cabana away just yet. Ryan calls for the “Moustache Ride” Cabana blocks it, hits a middle rope splash for a nearfall, but Ryan again goes behind Colt and hits “That 70’s kick” nearly getting the victory. Ryan goes for a suicide dive but catches a fist from Colt, again Ryan has no quit in him and runs Cabana headfirst into the ring post and both men are down outside the ring. Ryan & Cabana both make it in at 9 1/2 but both are spent and doling out right hands, Ryan goes or a pinning combination but only gets a 2 and Cabana hits the “Go To Sleep” following with the “Billy Goats Curse” and Joey Ryan taps out.
Match Analysis: These two guys are always fun to watch and the comedy throughout this matchup was a foregone conclusion. Don’t let that take away from the fact that these two have been two of the top indy talents in the world for many years and put on a very nice match for the PWX crowd in this one. Cabana with the homage to best friend CM Punk, using the GTS before tapping Ryan to the Billy Goats Curse was a nice touch and Joey Ryan fit right in with the crowd on the East Coast, love him or hate him he elicits a reaction. ***
